I first met Suki (a 2 year old Welsh Terrier) as a field hire client at Puppy Dog Tails. Her mummy approached me about training with a view to her becoming a PAT dog (Pets As Therapy) as her mummy worked in a Dementia ward in a local hospital.
I suggested that our 121 Perfect Puppy programme as that included the Kennel Club Good Citizens Puppy Award.
We used our local castle, high street and cafes to get Suki used to the sights and sounds as well as people. She attended our social session on a Sunday morning where our lovely clients pretended to be the patients and Suki was handled by all of them… she was stroked, given treats and generally made a fuss of.
The League Of Friends at the hospital heard about Suki and, after putting her case to the committee, she was lucky enough to receive funding from them to support Suki’s training
I’m pleased to announce that Suki passed her final PAT assessment through the PAT team on 22nd August 2022!
Onwards and upwards Suki and biggest congrats to her handler.
